# Privacy and security

> How Cleve protects your docs, chats, and recordings

Your docs are private unless you choose to share them. This page summarises how Cleve handles your data. For full details, see the [Security page](https://www.cleve.ai/security) and the [Privacy Policy](https://www.cleve.ai/privacy).

## At a glance

* **No model training.** Your docs, chats, prompts, and outputs are never used to train AI models, by Cleve or by any AI provider.
* **Zero data retention.** Every model in Cleve runs with zero data retention: AI providers don't keep your prompts or outputs after they respond.
* **Encrypted.** Your data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher).
* **Certified infrastructure.** Every service that processes personal data is SOC 2 Type II certified.
* **Secure payments.** Payments are processed by Stripe. Cleve never sees or stores your card number.

## Who can see your docs

* **Only you, by default.** New docs are private to you, or to your team in a team workspace.
* **People you share with.** When you invite someone or turn on link access, they can view or edit as you choose. See [Sharing docs and folders](https://docs.cleve.ai/features/collaboration.md).
* **Anyone, if you publish.** Docs you publish to your profile are public and can appear in search engines. Docs shared by link are not indexed by search engines. See [Publishing](https://docs.cleve.ai/features/publishing.md).

You can remove access or unpublish at any time.

## What Cleve's AI sees

When you chat with Cleve, it reads only what it needs to answer: the doc you have open, docs and folders you mention, files you attach, and docs it finds by searching your workspace. Only the minimum necessary context is sent to the AI provider for each reply.

Cleve also knows your name and email so it can address you and sign drafts correctly, and it reads your [memory](https://docs.cleve.ai/features/memory.md) if you have memory turned on. You can view, edit, or clear your memory at any time in **Settings → Memory**.

Cleve can only use [connected apps](https://docs.cleve.ai/integrations/apps.md) such as Gmail or Slack after you connect them, and you can disconnect them at any time in **Settings → Integrations**.

## Voice recordings

Voice dictation and meeting recordings are transcribed with model improvement turned off. The audio is kept for 7 days so you can download or re-transcribe it, then deleted. Transcripts stay with your docs.

## Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in the US by default. EU data residency is available for enterprise customers; [contact us](https://www.cleve.ai/contact) to ask about it.

## Your account

* **Sign-in security** includes breached password detection and account lockout after repeated failed attempts. Manage your email, password, and sign-in methods with **Manage account** in **Settings → General**.
* **Delete your data** by deleting docs and folders, clearing your memory, and disconnecting apps.
* **To delete your account**, email [support@cleve.ai](mailto:support@cleve.ai).

## Report a security issue

If you find a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to [support@cleve.ai](mailto:support@cleve.ai).
