Make Cleve look and read the way you like: pick a theme, mix your own colours, tune the fonts in your docs, and turn on accessibility options such as an easier-to-read font or high contrast. You’ll find everything in Settings → Personalisation. The most common options are also one click away in any doc.
Personalisation settings are saved in your browser for your account. If you use Cleve on another computer or browser, set them up there too.

Quick settings from a doc

In any doc, click the feather icon (Themes and settings) at the left of the toolbar. The Themes & Settings menu lets you:
  • Make doc text smaller or larger with the two A buttons, or click Reset between them to go back to the default size.
  • Switch between Light, Dark and System appearance.
  • Pick a theme, or click Edit colours to adjust your own. Click Back to themes to return.
Click View all settings to open Settings → Personalisation.

Choose a theme

A theme sets the colours of your workspace and the default type in your docs. Open Settings → Personalisation and pick one under Theme: Each tile previews the theme in your current appearance (light or dark). Picking a theme never changes whether Cleve is light or dark, and it keeps your doc text size. Themes colour the sidebar, the tab bar, the chat panel and your own chat messages. The doc page itself stays a solid colour, so your writing is always easy to read.

Mix your own colours

  1. Under Theme, click Edit colours.
  2. Drag the large dot around the circle. Moving around the circle changes the colour; moving towards the centre makes it richer, and towards the edge makes it softer.
  3. Use + and − to add or remove companion colours, up to three in total. Companion colours blend into the sidebar, chat panel and your chat messages.
  4. Click the undo arrow to reverse your last change, then click Done.
You can also use the keyboard: the left and right arrow keys change the colour, up and down change how rich it is, Home makes it richest and End softest. Hold Shift for bigger steps. Your palette is saved as Custom. It stays in the theme list, so you can try other themes and switch back to it.

Light, dark or system

Choose Light, Dark or System (follow your device) in any of these places:
  • Settings → General → Appearance
  • Settings → Personalisation, next to Theme
  • The Themes and settings menu in a doc
  • The sun and moon button at the bottom of the sidebar

Customise the type in your docs

The Type section in Settings → Personalisation lets you fine-tune how your docs read. Changes apply instantly, and the Sample doc beside the controls shows the result. Click Actual size to switch the preview to Preview 2× for a closer look. Open Headings or Body to set: Click Reset this style to undo changes to headings or body only, or Reset type at the top to restore all type settings. Choosing a theme also sets its default fonts, and the theme area shows Text customised once you’ve made your own changes.

Accessibility

The Accessibility font applies to the whole app, not just your docs.

Doc layout and editing

With the formatting toolbar off, the doc toolbar still has undo and redo, the Themes and settings button, dictation and version history, and keyboard shortcuts keep working.

Rename Cleve and change its look

Cleve is the default name of your AI agent, and you can rename it.
  1. Open Settings → General.
  2. Next to Cleve’s look, click Customize.
  3. Click the pencil to rename it (up to 24 characters), and use the arrows to pick an accessory.
  4. Click Save.
The new name appears in chat, in Settings and throughout the app.
