What uses usage
Anything Cleve does with AI uses usage, including:- Replies in chat
- Cleve’s replies and edits when you ask it in a comment
- Edits Cleve makes to interactive blocks and diagrams
- Images Cleve creates or edits
- More capable models. Premium models such as Claude Opus 5.5 use your usage faster than lighter models.
- Longer and more complex work. Reading many docs, writing a long draft, or making a series of edits uses more than a quick answer.
- Long conversations. Cleve rereads the conversation each time it replies, so very long chats use more per reply.
- Images. Higher-quality images use more than standard ones.
Use Auto to get the most from your plan
Auto is the recommended model for most work. It chooses the model for you, balancing quality against how much usage each reply takes, so your plan goes further. See Models and Auto.Session and weekly limits
- A window starts with your first message after the previous one ended, and resets when its time is up. It doesn’t reset at a fixed time of day.
- The session limit lets you do a burst of heavy work in one sitting, while the weekly limit keeps that from using up your whole week.
- There is no separate monthly limit.
Check your usage
- Settings → Billing shows your Session limit and Weekly limit, each with the percentage used and when it resets. Before you’ve started a window, it shows Starts with your next message.
- The usage ring next to the send button shows whichever limit is closer to full. Click it to see both limits, then See all to open billing settings.
When you reach a limit
If you reach either limit, Cleve tells you which one and when it resets, for example: “You’ve used your session limit. Upgrade or wait for it to reset. Resets in 42 min.” You can:- Wait for the limit to reset, or
- Upgrade your plan from Settings → Billing for more usage.
Make your usage go further
- Use Auto unless you need a specific model.
- Point Cleve at the right docs. Mention them with
@instead of asking Cleve to search your whole workspace. - Start a new chat for a new topic. Short, focused conversations use less per reply than very long ones.
- Save premium models for hard problems. Use them when the extra reasoning really matters.
Only one reply runs at a time. If you send a message while Cleve is still working on another one, wait for it to finish or stop it first.
